Awards

The consistent excellence of our wines has given us prestige and recognition over time, in the different international markets, which has been reflected in the most important wine publications in the world. In 2010, Apaltagua was the third most internationally award-winning Chilean vineyard. In 2011, the winery was granted 45 medals in international competitions and in 2012 it received 45 awards for its different wines, in countries such as the United States, Belgium, France, England, Chile and Germany, among others.   In 2013 the winery has already been awarded with numerous recognitions.

Apaltagua Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2010 87 points Deep ruby. Musky cherry and dark berry aromas are complicated by licorice and woodsmoke. Bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors show a slightly clenched quality and pick up spiciness with air. Finishes with good chewy persistence and lingering notes of cracked pepper and licorice. Nicely focused but I’d like more give here.

Apaltagua Envero Carmenere Gran Reserva 2010

Bright violet color. Musky cherry and dark berry aromas and flavors, with subtle herb and cracked pepper nuances adding complexity. A supple, easy-drinking midweight that shows modest depth but good clarity, finishing with good cut and persistence. This is drinking well now.

Apaltagua Envero Carmenere Gran Reserva 2009
88 points
Inky ruby. Smells a lot like a cabernet, displaying scents of dried cherry, redcurrant, tobacco and musky herbs. This densely packed, chewy mid-weight shows good intensity and spiciness, along with a hint of licorice. Finishes with gentle grip and sneaky sweetness, leaving a peppery note behind.

Apaltagua Grial Carmenere 2008
91 points
Opaque ruby. Sexy aromas of cherry-cola, boysenberry and vanilla, with Indian spice overtones. Broad, palate-coating black and blue fruit flavors show a velvety texture and pick up energy with aeration. Emphatically modern carmenere with intense, oak-spiced fruit tones lingering on the penetrating finish. This wine would sit nicely in a flight of high-end Napa red wines.
