Vineyards
Colección Petit Verdot comes from our own vineyards in the Tricao Estate located in the Curico Valley. The deep, limy and stony soils are poor in organic material but rich in minerals. Planted in 2011, the vines are guided on trellises and cordon spur pruned in order to control their vigor. Because it is a variety which produces high yields, a carefully managed grape cluster reduction is carried out each year, thus ensuring the necessary quality needed for this wine. The grapes are 100% hand-picked and then transported to the winery in 10-12 kg bins in a refrigerated truck.

Climate
A microclimate condition exists within the Tricao area of the Curico Valley. The vineyards, planted on the foot of the hills and with a southwest sun exposure are located near the Mataquito river, thus making the average temperature much lower than in the rest of the valley. These conditions allow the grapes to ripen with strong and concentrated aromas and with a balanced, natural acidity. This area, with Mediterranean climate characteristics, has clearly marked seasons with warm and dry summers and cold and rainy winters.

Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked at the end of April or early May. During the first five days in stainless steel tanks, the grapes are maintained in cold maceration below 10°C in order to extract color and aromas. During the fermentation process the pump-over is carefully controlled so as to avoid over extraction of the grapes. Once the alcoholic fermentation has finished, the wine is placed in French oak barrels to carry out the malolactic fermentation. It is kept in barrels for 12 months before bottling.
