The Apaltagua harvest during the Coronavirus infection

Due to the current worldwide sanitary crisis caused by the spread of virus Covid-19 which started on December 2019 and goes on until today, each country has taken increased and rigorous measures to protect its people of the terrible effects caused by this infection.

Among these measures, quarantine, isolation and social distancing have proven to be essential, urgent and effective.

Working remotely from our homes has been highly recommended. In many companies, this practice is 100% feasible, whereas in certain areas, it is simply impractical or impossible.

The latter is the case of the harvest. When the fruit is ready to be picked, just like the birth of a baby who has spent 38-40 weeks in gestation, the grapes have to be picked and the harvest cannot be postponed.

Depending on the climatic conditions, the harvest in Chile can start as early as February (for white grape varieties) and go on until April or May (for red grape varieties and Late Harvest).

During this critical time of the year, the Apaltagua workers in six of its vineyards (Pirque, Manantiales, Apalta, Huaquén, La Pancora and El Huaico) have continued harvesting and processing the grapes from Monday until Sunday.

During this season we have added safety and autoprotective measures as per the guidance of our risk prevention department.

We have also followed the instructions dictated by the World Health Organization and those instructed by the Chilean governmental authorities.

At the same time, we have taken full responsibility of the security of all our workers so that very shortly the grapes from our vineyards will end up in the wines that will reach the tables of our esteemed national and international consumers.

We hope to overcome this pandemic crisis as a team effort and, as soon as possible, we would like to make a toast for the health and safety of people in every corner of the world.
