Apaltagua joins the “Chilean Wine Day” celebrations

In 2015, the government of Chile promulgated a law making the “Chilean Wine Day” an official date to commemorate. The date goes back to September 4th, 1545 when Pedro de Valdivia wrote to King Carlos V of Spain requesting “vines and wines to evangelize Chile”. From this time on, the celebration has been a symbol of the commercial significance that wine has contributed to the Chilean economy.

Almost five centuries later, wine has acted as the most important “ambassador” of Chile throughout the world, supplying the demand of more than 1.8 million consumers in 150 countries. Chile is the fourth largest wine exporter in the world invoicing over USD 2000 million and one of the ten largest producers supplying 80% of the wine consumed in the planet. The consumption is calculated at approximately 246 million hectoliters, according to the 2019 Annual Report published by the International Organization of Vineyards and Wines.

In 2018, as per the information granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Chile (SAG), the production of 340 vineyards at 800 wineries located in 14 viticultural regions, exceeded a billion liters of wine with appellation of origin. Of this total, 65,5% corresponded to red wine varieties and 34,2% to white varieties. With a 29% production, Cabernet Sauvignon continues to be the king of all varieties, followed by Sauvignon Blanc with 14%.

Apaltagua will join the festivities of the Chilean Wine Day with an unbeatable 50% price discount for our “Apalta Nature Tour” from September 6-8. Reservations are to be made in advance to turismo@apaltagua.com or by telephone to 722976309.
